MEPIS was retained to provide consulting services and assist in the development of a feasibility study for the design and construction of a state-of-the-art laboratory, office and collaboration space. The facility is intended to be a campus hub for research, innovation, and scholarship in the next generation of computer technologies including: Exascale Computing, AI Innovation, Data Science, Machine learning, Hybrid Cloud Technology, Quantum Information Science & Technology, and Human-Computer Interaction. The facility will be a center for the Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology (IQUIST), the Center for Networked Intelligent Computers and Environments (C-NICE), the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), the IBM-Illinois Institute for the Future of Computing, and the new thematic research areas that synergize Computer Sciences (CS). Unique requirements of the facility included uninterrupted clean power and tight control of temperature and humidity 24/7.
