Northwestern University - University Hall - Heating System Feasibility Assessment

University Hall is a historic building on campus, constructed of heavy masonry/stone. The building houses a combination of classrooms and general office spaces. It consists of a partially below grade lower level and 4 floors above grade, along with an unfinished attic mechanical space. The building opened for service in 1869 and has most likely seen numerous renovations over the course of its 140+ years.  The most recent mechanical system renovation/upgrade appears to have been installed in 1993. Numerous complaints from building occupants occur as the outside temperatures drop below 30ᵒF.  Persistent issues with space temperatures exist especially in the offices with high ceilings located on the upper floors of the building. Northwestern University retained the services of MEPIS to assess and evaluate the heating system serving University Hall. MEPIS used the existing design documents to gain an understanding of the intent of the systems and then verified the actual installation within the building to confirm the validity of the installation.  MEPIS conducted a detail survey of the existing mechanical systems and documented the areas of concern.
