MEPIS was retained by Chicago Public Schools for the project at Laughlin Falconer Elementary School to replace the heating and cooling systems of a 1998 annex addition to an original 1919 school building. The failing, roof-mounted 221-ton air-cooled chiller was replaced complete, including structural modifications and related controls and piping work. Two split direct-expansion fan coils serving the library space were also replaced with new hydronic fan coils. Three failing 1200MBH hydronic boilers on the second floor were also replaced with new, modulating 1275MBH boilers of greater efficiency; the boiler pumps and related digital controls were also replaced.
