Chicago State University - New Daycare Facility

MEPIS was commissioned by Chicago State University for the renovation, remodel, and conversion of approximately 5,200 square feet of existing space on the first floor of the Education Building. The new center provides care for approximately 70 children and serves the needs of students, faculty, and the local community. The center also helps train new early childhood education teachers. The center contains two 3–5-year-old classrooms, one school age classroom, a new outdoor playground, warming kitchen, nurse’s office, administrative offices, conference room, parent/teacher meeting room, and support spaces. The facility offers full day services as well as after-school care. MEPIS’ work included the selective demolition of walls within the space, complete demolition of all finishes, flooring, ceiling, MEP equipment and systems, doors, and lighting. The new work included new walls, ceilings, finishes, flooring, lighting, MEP equipment systems, doors, fire sprinkler system and fire alarm system.
