Chicago Development Board - Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy - Fire Suppresion

The Capital Development Board of Illinois retained MEPIS to design the new fire suppression systems for three existing buildings on the Illinois Veterans’ Home campus in Quincy, Illinois. The original construction of the buildings date back to 1886 and 1935. MEPIS organized flow and pressure readings in the campus water loop to determine an appropriate tie-in point for the new water service to each building. Pipe routing and head locations were meticulously designed around the old structures to prevent unnecessary disturbance. The new service in each building included a wet system and a dry system for the attic. The oldest building is a four-story which required the installation of a fire pump and associated electrical service. New system components such as fire pump status, flow and tamper switches, etc. were connected to the existing campus fire alarm system.
