MEPIS was commissioned by Northwestern University to design the replacement and rerouting of electrical feeders to and from a basement electrical closet that ran underneath the pool deck upon discovery during renovations that they were in very poor condition due to the chlorinated pool environment. These conduits included equipment bonding and grounding conductors and feeders for a motor control center, transformer-fed lighting panelboards, and a fire pump feed. MEPIS performed a site survey of the basement underneath the pool deck and main building to find the best path to route new conduits, considering special accommodations for a new fire pump feeder. It was decided to route the feeders both above the pool deck via the 2nd floor, and mounted below the pool deck in PVC conduits, with a fire-rated conduit system being specified for the fire pump feeder. In addition, in lieu of separate feeds for the power equipment a new distribution panelboard was designed for serving the basement loads.
