The project entails the new construction of a 2-story medical office building of approximately 25,410 GSF through the Cook County Health & Hospitals System. The location of this project is on the site of an existing building to be demolished (under a separate project). Initial programming of the spaces are to be private general practice offices, dental offices, mammography and x-ray, and administrative & support offices. MEPIS’ scope of work consisted of Design of HVAC, exhaust, temperature control, and natural gas systems; Electrical distribution systems including emergency systems, design of interior and exterior building power and controls, design of feeders and branch circuiting for equipment, appliances, and wiring devices, design of raceways for telecommunications and other low-voltage devices. Plumbing design included, hot and cold-water systems, sanitary waste and vent piping, storm draining, and medical gas and filtered water systems. Fire Protection/Fire Alarm design included, automatic sprinkler systems at the water supply and interior standpipe systems, sprinkler zones and layouts, special suppression systems for computer & control room spaces, fire alarm and mass notification systems. Telecommunications Design included, structured cabling system for the LAN, including layout of copper and fiber wire, risers, backbones, telecom closets, and distribution to outlets, service entrance for data and telephone circuits, cable tray, rack, cabinet layouts, and elevation details, coordinated intrusion detection, CCTV, and card access systems.
